
Apollo Njoroge
Apollo Njoroge is the CEO and Managing Director of Faulu Microfinance Bank Limited, a subsidiary of the Old Mutual Group. He is over 26 years’ experience in banking across East Africa.
Apollo Njoroge is currently the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Faulu Microfinance Bank Limited, a subsidiary of the Old Mutual Group. He is an experienced financial executive with over 26 years’ experience in Retail, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Banking across East Africa.
Prior to his appointment to Faulu, he was Ag. Managing Director, Equity Bank in Uganda, where he also held the positions of Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer. Other positions he held at Equity Bank in Kenya were; General Manager in charge of Business Relationships and Head of Business Growth & Development. He has also worked in African Banking Corporation Limited and Investments & Mortgages Bank.
He is a graduate of IESE Business School in Spain and holds a Master’s Degree in International Business Administration (Finance Option) from the United States International University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree (Hons) in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Nairobi. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Strathmore Business School – Executive Management Programs.
Apollo has been on the forefront in spearheading change in Faulu, leading the organisation to becoming the most profitable Microfinance Bank 2 years in a row. The Bank has successfully rolled out a new banking software, T24, in the 48 branches, and this has supported the balance sheet growth with a loan book at Kshs 20B and Deposits of Kshs 19B, and recently launched Agency Banking with over 200 agents.
His achievements during his tenure at Equity Bank were commendable, having led the acquisition of a microfinance institution in Uganda and its eventual growth into a fully-fledged profitable bank in top 10. He is also credited with leading the change process for the rollout of a new banking software, documentation of procedures and supporting the team to transition to a commercial bank.
